Movie Review - Antara 2 Darjat

This time for movie review is quite different from other movie reviews - the setting and place were taken a bit different for this movie it's called "Antara 2 Darjat" a legendary film by Seniman Malaysia P.Ramlee and Seniwati Malaysia Saadiah. This film was shot back in the 1960s. It represents the level of people during that time or-so-called "kasta" between commoners and royalties. Ghazali a character was played by P. Ramlee and Tengku Zaleha played by Saadiah they were secret lovers back when they first met during an incident of Tengku Zaleha's car - after that, she wanted to learn about piano and Ghazali was invited to teach Tengku Zaleha about the piano. The issue started when the royalty family has this stereotype of "respect the bloodline, royalties cannot marry commoners because they have to uphold the integrity and dignity as royalties". Unlike commoners, Ghazali who is so into Tengku Zaleha and wanted to marry her. Not too long after that, the issue rises when they went to date and Tengku Zaleha's family knew about that. Ghazali was beaten to unconsciously and Tengku Zaleha was "dead" according to her father, in fact, she was not. She was then brought to Singapore and got married to another royalty family - moved back to her villa in Johore and met Ghazali back. The issue back to its original circle where Zaleha's husband got into a fight with Ghazali when he found out his wife has an affair with someone, Tengku Mukri, Zaleha's husband died in a fight between him and Ghazali - Zaleha and Ghazali lived happily ever after (sounds like Disney movies)...

Based on the movie, I would like to address some interesting parts of the movie. Even though, this movie is quite a long time ago it resembles the essence of movie and film industry which where it was all started. Not to mention, in the movie, there was some close-up shots and mid-range shots, for instance, the moment when Ghazali was invited to repair the piano after they ended up badly in a tragic incident - after he was done repairing the piano he heard Zaleha was playing a song made by him. It shows that in the movie Ghazali was shocked after a long time he has not met the person that he loved the most. Another one is the film colorization - I'm pretty sure that this is a B&W film but the choice of using that color is actually an absolute reason to keep the movie as it should be - the iconic film of them all.
